‘Climate Reality’ at Selkirk College in Nelson

| Chantelle Spicer, Editor |On November 21, more than 20,000 climate advocates will be speaking around the world as part of the Climate Reality Project. For one full day, Climate Reality Leader volunteers trained by former US Vice President Al Gore will hold public presentations and conversations on our changing climate across continents and time zones. The Climate Reality Project was founded based on the recognition that the shift to a clean energy economy is on – and accelerating by the day.

The Climate Reality Project Canada is the Canadian branch of a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing action around the issue of climate change, with over 600 active Climate Reality Leaders across Canada. Here in the Kootenays, Laura Sacks will be presenting at the Selkirk College campus at Nelson’s 10th Street location at 12:30pm.

Sacks has been an active community member and long-time climate activist. She has hosted the award-winning Climate of Change show on Kootenay Coop Radio and founded a local chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby – an organization focused on creating the political will for a livable planet – and helped build what is now one of the most active chapters in Canada.

“We are at a critical time, when the impacts of climate change are getting more severe. Yet we also have an exciting opportunity to create a better world by addressing the issue,” says Sacks. “By staying active and engaged in the community — as part of a global initiative — I feel hopeful that we can avoid the worst of climate change’s impacts.”

Students and the community are invited to attend.
